Why Did You Become Your Own Boss?
This was one of the many questions posed by FranNet’s Julie Denise at the September meeting of the Atlanta Financial Executives Networking Group. FENG assembled an expert panel of Atlanta area franchise owners to discuss their transition from corporate America to franchise ownership. Each sought the guidance of FranNet in their career transition and interestingly, despite similar backgrounds, they all chose very different businesses.

Kevin Center, Atlanta Area Developer and Franchise Owner at PostNet International offered sage advice, “if you’re good at execution, you have a greater chance of succeeding in a franchise because there is a path defined for you.”

Pet Supplies Plus Franchise Owner Randy Grinberg knew he wanted to be in business for himself, but had no idea what that business might be. “I was open to looking at anything so when Julie uncovered several options for me to explore, I landed on the perfect franchise for me.”

ERS franchise owner, Ralph Martin talked about B2B franchises and why he utilized his daughter's unique expertise in his business during the early stages, while Mosquito Joe of Atlanta owner Jack Sparks shared his semi-passive franchise success.

FENG members took advantage of this opportunity to ask questions of the executives turned business owners. Discussion included the various funding options available, the contents of a Franchise Disclosure Document and the reasons why one would choose to buy a franchise versus starting from scratch with an independent business or consulting.
